The Art of Successful
Blogging
by
M.L. Benton
The first thing my
clients always say to me is, "I don't know what to write on my blog," or "I
post my book updates but no one ever leaves comments."
You leave this world and you create a different reality, you are in the zone
and time just slips to another dimension away from you, and all the while
your new book is cooking!
Now you go to blog and you just stare at it. Nothing comes, just that plain
white box, staring back at you.
You are free in your fantasies so now you have to learn to be free in your
blogging.

Some things to think about.
Always let your personality come through.
Share your day, a hobby, or a talent.
Have a fellow author? Post their new book with the blurb occasionally.
Are you running a contest? Post it
Exchange day, Set up an exchange day. You
guest blog on a friend's blog and in turn have them blog on yours.
What news does your publisher have?
Want information about something in particular?
Start a Question & Answer Segment.
Did you see a great movie, or show, or news report?
Share it.
Did you go on vacation a business trip? Share it.
This list can go on and on. When I see a blog with nothing but book updates
I close it out…this is what websites and news groups are for.
I have found rant boards…I steer my clients away from them. If you had a bad
day or experience and you want to share, post it…but do not dwell on it.
Move on in the next post.
You begin getting comments…reply to them. No one wants to visit a blog and
take time to comment, and never get a reply.
Now you ask…why is blogging so important anyway? This is a perfect format
for readers to identify with their author. To make a personal connection. So
bring them into your world…you would be surprised at what you may learn.
You would be surprised however to know the bigger editors of print houses
that blog surfs.
Remember they need breaks and they use them to hunt up new talent. They also
look for content interaction. So shoot up some interesting conversation on
the blog and let the party begin!
